My weight loss transformation came somewhat of a surprise. I had no idea what ketosis and a low carb diet could do! I lost 140 pounds, about half of my total body weight, over a year and a half (roughly 10 pounds a month). You might be surprised to hear this, but for a really long time, I was afraid to talk about my weight loss transformation. I was afraid that I would jinx it!

I discovered what ketosis could do by accident. I weighed close to 300 pounds and had given up all hope. I had always been overweight. I expected that would never change! Maybe I was in denial, but I thought “diets didn’t work for me”. Over the years, I had tried every weight loss program on the plant – and failed every single time.
Shame & Embarrassment
The turning point in my weight loss transformation wasn’t glamorous. Rather, it was downright embarrassing. I was on a plane, traveling alone for work when I realized that the seatbelt wouldn’t close. My stomach was just too large! I had no idea that my weight had gotten “that bad”. I felt absolutely mortified. Instead of asking for help, I hid the unclosed seatbelt from the flight attendant. I covered my lap with my jacket and pretended to be asleep.
Hopeful About Weight Loss Transformation
That moment sparked something deep inside of me I thought was gone. I knew it was time to make a change! Did I know exactly what to do next? No, that took some time for me to figure out. But over time, with a lot of experimentation, I found a way to lose weight that seemed, well, a bit… unconventional.
First, I learned I had to break the rules of conventional dieting in order to be successful at losing weight. Call me a ketosis rebel if you want to, but eventually, I discovered a low carb diet that actually worked. It led me to embark upon a weight loss transformation in a “doable” way. Flexibility, I discovered, was the key.
Because I was breaking so many traditional rules about strict dieting, I described my methods as “dirty” or “lazy” – eventually putting the two together. My weight loss transformation could be summed up in one phrase… DIRTY, LAZY, KETO! Bravely (or naively?) I documented my ketosis weight loss methods in secret. Writing down my story, rather than talking about it, seemed safe. Even though I had lost 140 pounds, the issues surrounding my struggles with obesity felt shameful, embarrassing, even painful.
